01What a scraped lead list is
A scraped list is names, emails and phone numbers pulled from map listings, directories and websites. It can be accurate and well sorted by trade and town. What it can't tell you is whether anyone on it wants what you sell, because nobody on it asked to hear from you.
We build lists like that every week; it is where outreach starts. But a list is raw material. The lead is what comes back.
02Why bought lists so rarely answer
- Nobody asked. Every call or email starts cold, from zero.
- Anyone can buy the same list. If it's for sale to you, it's for sale to the agency down the road, and the businesses on it hear the same pitch again and again.
- It goes stale. Owners change, inboxes close, numbers move. A list is right on the day it's made and less right every week after.
- It invites a generic message. A file of a thousand names pushes you toward one email for all of them, and generic email is easy to ignore.
03What a reply looks like instead
A reply is a business that read a specific email about its own situation and wrote back. Most don't say “tell me more”; they ask a buying question. In one US web design agency's file, 33 of 85 replies ask about price or a quote. These are word for word:
Ok, how much will it cost?
How much would it cost to get Listed first page in screen printing and embroidery?
How much will it cost me
Can you please send me some samples and price sheet? Thank you
You can't buy that from a directory. You can only get it by writing to the right businesses about something true, then keeping the ones who answer.
05What to check before you buy leads
- Is each lead a reply, or a contact? Ask to see what a lead looks like.
- Does the reply come with the lead, so you can read the intent before you call?
- Is it exclusive, or sold to others too?
- What happens if a lead is wrong? Ours are replaced free if you flag them within 14 days.
- How steady is delivery? One SEO agency has had 373 deliveries from us, never more than 6 days apart.
- Do you pay per lead, or per list or per month whatever comes of it?
06What a lead file should hold
Enough to make the first call a good one: the contact's first and last name, the email they replied from, a phone number, where the business was found, its country and the reply itself, word for word. Ours arrive as a dated spreadsheet by email, named like “10 SEO Lead (19-Aug-2026)”.
07Build the list, or buy the replies
If you have the hours, build your own list and write to it well; the guides on SEO clients and web design clients show how. If you'd rather start from the replies, we deliver them, exclusive to you, at a price per lead. See the leads by industry.
